Start with the actual flat and scope

Identify whether the work concerns a new BTO flat, resale home or occupied renovation. List the rooms, existing finishes and proposed removal or overlay work. Separate dry living areas from places with different water exposure or renovation constraints.

Use HDB’s current building-work guidance to check the proposed scope with the contractor. An online vinyl guide cannot establish approval for a particular flat or alteration. Keep permit and building questions separate from the product’s marketing claims.

Compare the offered vinyl products

Item Check before ordering
Identity Brand, collection, colour and product code.
Construction Rigid or flexible construction, wear surface and backing.
Use Whether the exact product is declared suitable for each proposed room.
Fixing Click-lock, glue-down or another approved system.
Aftercare Cleaning, repair approach and written warranty exclusions.

Read wear layer vs overall thickness before assuming a thicker sample is the more durable choice.

Assess an overlay proposal

Ask the installer to inspect the existing floor, including loose areas, surface irregularity and moisture concerns. An overlay is a site-dependent proposal. A new covering does not make an unstable or damp base suitable.

Clarify preparation, total floor build-up, doorway operation and transitions to adjoining areas. Request the selected product’s acceptance criteria and a written preparation scope. Quick-Step’s installation resources are examples of the product-level guidance to obtain.

Plan the room edges and fixed furniture

Coordinate cabinets, door frames, skirting and thresholds before installation. Ask the installer to explain movement details and any restrictions on placing fixed furniture over the proposed system. Confirm who handles trims and door adjustments.

For a consistent appearance across rooms, agree plank direction and necessary breaks in advance. A continuous-looking floor should not be promised until the layout has been checked against the chosen system. See movement gaps and transitions.

Compare equivalent quotation scope

Request removal or overlay assumptions, preparation, accessories, labour, disposal and tax treatment as identifiable items. Mark work that remains subject to inspection. Ask how additional preparation will be priced and approved.

Compare the final scope, rather than a material-only figure against an installed total. Use the quotation checklist to keep unresolved work visible.

Retain a handover folder

  • Approved sample identification and final quotation.
  • Installation and care instructions for the supplied product.
  • Agreed completion observations and outstanding work.
  • Warranty provider and claims contact.
  • Spare-stock labels and repair arrangements.
