SPECIALIST MATERIAL GUIDE / SINGAPORE

Wall Murals & Custom Wallpaper in Singapore

Plan a mural as a complete composition. Measure the wall, position the furniture and openings, then approve the crop, panel layout and actual material before production.

Begin with the visible wall

Draw the whole elevation, including doors, windows, switches, skirting and furniture. Mark which areas of the artwork will remain visible from the principal view. A portrait, tree or architectural feature that looks balanced on a screen can end up behind a cabinet or across a doorway.

Record the finished wall dimensions and ask the installer how out-of-square corners, ceiling variation and trimming will be handled. Agree who confirms the dimensions used for production.

Approve the crop before the order

Ask for a scaled artwork layout on the actual elevation. Compare the focal point, horizon, repeated elements and any enlargement with the furnishing plan. Keep the approved version identifiable so later changes are traceable.

For custom artwork, clarify what the supplier needs from the file and whether a proof or physical print sample is available. Do not assume that a social-media image has the quality or permitted use needed for a commissioned mural.

Check the strip and seam plan

Record panel order, finished width, join positions and the manufacturer’s hanging direction. Review how the composition crosses inside and outside corners. A mural can have joins even when the full artwork looks like one uninterrupted image.

Agree how the installer will protect the material and check the first laid area before continuing. Keep any supplier-specific inspection and reporting instructions with the order rather than relying on one generic online rule.

Choose the print surface separately

A mural is a design format, not a single wallcovering construction. Ask whether the actual print is on paper, non-woven, vinyl-faced or another specified surface. Confirm the backing, adhesive, wall preparation and care method.

A room photograph does not establish that two murals have the same texture or cleaning limits. Compare a labelled swatch and the actual hanging sheet alongside the visual proof.

Price the complete mural job

An itemised proposal should identify artwork preparation or customisation, material, panel layout, removal, wall repair, preparation, hanging and finishing. Ask how a damaged panel or a reprint would be handled, including whether matching is feasible.

Keep the wall measurements, artwork approval, product reference and care documents together. Use the wallpaper installation guide to resolve the site work before the print is produced.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Is a mural the same as repeating wallpaper?

A mural is planned around a complete composition; repeating wallpaper is planned around its pattern repeat and match. Both still need a material specification and hanging instructions.

Can I order a mural from the wall width alone?

Use a full elevation and finished dimensions, including height, openings and furniture. Ask the installer and supplier to agree trimming and measurement responsibility.

Can I replace just one damaged mural panel later?

Ask the supplier about the original file, material, print process and matching arrangements. A replacement panel may differ from the aged installed surface; do not assume an invisible result.
