Begin with the site and intended use
A covered balcony, garden, rooftop and play area are different projects. Write down sun exposure, rainfall, existing surface, drains, access and how the area will be used. A landscaping sample does not establish suitability for sport or playground use.
If impact protection or a specialist performance requirement is part of the brief, ask for evidence for the complete installed system. Turf appearance, pile height and softness are not substitutes for that evidence.
Compare more than pile height
Look at fibre shape, colour blend, density and the backing as well as height. View samples from different directions because the pile orientation can affect appearance. Ask about the intended application, care instructions and supporting product documents.
For pets, discuss cleaning access and the proposed base arrangement. Record any infill and maintenance recommendations for the exact product. A label such as pet-friendly should lead to practical questions about use and cleaning rather than end the comparison.
Drainage is a site system
Check where water will go below the turf and how it reaches existing outlets. Keep drains accessible for cleaning. Do not assume a permeable-looking backing resolves poor falls, blocked drains or a waterproofing defect beneath it.
Ask the installer to distinguish a soil-based garden build-up from work over concrete or decking. Namgrass provides a product-specific installation sequence; its garden base details are not automatically a specification for a Singapore balcony.
Plan joins, direction and edges
Draw the area and roll layout before ordering. Confirm the pile direction, visible seams and edge restraint. Include any cuts around planter feet and inspection covers. Compare quantities using the layout, not floor area alone.
Namgrass advises matching pile direction when joining its turf lengths. For your selected product, follow its own seam and adhesive instructions and agree the finished appearance with the installer.
Keep a realistic maintenance plan
- Remove loose debris using the approved tools.
- Keep drainage routes and inspection access clear.
- Ask for spill and pet-cleaning guidance for the exact turf.
- Confirm restrictions around hot equipment and nearby heat sources.
- Retain product details, installer contacts and care documents.
Check building or estate requirements for the proposed work before installation. Compare removal, base preparation, edging, turf, joins, disposal and maintenance in the total project cost.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
Does taller pile always mean better artificial grass?
No. Review the fibre, density, backing, intended use, installation and maintenance together. Pile height alone does not establish suitability.
Is a garden installation guide a balcony specification?
Not automatically. Soil-based bases and existing concrete or decking need different site proposals. Use the actual product and substrate requirements.
Can grass backing fix a blocked drain?
No. Assess the water route, existing falls and outlet condition. Preserve cleaning and inspection access beneath the proposed turf.
