THE SGFLOORHUB WORKBOOK / 01 — MEASURE
Flooring Area & Wastage Calculator
Measure the room.
Make room for the details.
Room-by-room measurements, an editable allowance and whole-pack rounding. Follow every step of the calculation.
Open the worksheet ↓Measure the rooms you will cover.
Switching units converts entered measurements. Choose rooms individually; a flat's advertised size is not its flooring area.
Try an example room set
Illustrative dimensions only, not standard HDB or condo plans. These buttons add sample rooms without replacing your entries. Rename, measure and edit every room before using the result for a real project.
Example rooms are present. Replace the illustrative dimensions with your measured plan before requesting or ordering materials.
Make the ordering allowance explicit.
10% is an editable example, not a Singapore standard or a layout recommendation. Confirm cuts, pattern repeat and ordering allowance with the supplier. Pack coverage must come from the actual product.
Measure a project, not a flat label.
Enter each room in metres or feet, or use the measured net area of an irregular room. Exclude spaces you are not covering. Multiplying length by width is appropriate for a rectangle; use a measured plan for other shapes.
Understand the ordering calculation.
The target is the measured area multiplied by one plus your allowance percentage. The 10% starting value is an editable example, not a material or Singapore standard. Ask the supplier to confirm the layout, cuts, pattern repeat and approved ordering allowance.
If you enter coverage per pack, the calculator rounds up to whole packs. It shows the target separately from the actual pack-rounded order area. Keep product-specific roll, seam or patterned-carpet planning separate from this area worksheet.
Keep area and cost connected.
Use the result in Budget Planner: material supply uses the order area, while installation uses the measured area. Check the written scope using the Quotation Checklist.
Does the calculator decide whether an overlay is allowed?
No. Confirm substrate conditions, the selected product instructions and applicable HDB or MCST requirements separately.
Can I use a 3-room or 4-room flat's advertised size?
Use measured rooms and explicit exclusions. A property label does not identify the actual area being covered.
