Vinyl Sheet Flooring in Singapore

Plan sheet widths, joins, seam treatment and installation scope before comparing roll-flooring products.

Understand the roll format

Vinyl sheet flooring is supplied in rolls and cut into lengths for the project. The installed layout is determined by the actual roll width, room shape and required direction or pattern arrangement.

It is a different format from individually laid tiles or planks. Do not confuse sheet vinyl with laminate wraps, architectural film for joinery or other surface finishes. Ask for the flooring product code and its intended application.

Look beyond the shared sheet name

Sheet products differ in construction, backing and intended use. Homogeneous and heterogeneous are construction descriptions, while compact or acoustic labels identify further product or assembly characteristics. A common roll format does not establish the same performance for every range.

Gerflor's cited manual covers specifically listed homogeneous and heterogeneous PVC products. Use it as an example of product-specific documentation, not as a universal Singapore installation specification. Obtain the current local document for the product in your quote.

Draw the seams before placing the order

Request a measured layout showing sheet lengths, direction, joins, room junctions and perimeter cuts. Wider sheets can reduce the number of joins in a particular plan, but the room dimensions still determine whether more than one sheet is needed.

Consider how a seam meets traffic routes, furniture and changes in the room. Ask whether pattern alignment changes the material allowance. Keep the ordered quantity tied to the layout rather than assuming net floor area alone determines how much roll flooring to buy.

Confirm the specified seam and edge system

The appropriate joining or welding approach depends on the actual product and application. Ask for the approved seam treatment, compatible materials and timing requirements. Specify any coving, skirting, door thresholds or junction details separately.

A roll-flooring surface is not automatically a complete waterproofing system. Confirm the actual exposure conditions and product instructions. Discuss substrate moisture and existing leaks independently of the surface and seam specification.

Compare installation and future access

Sheet products may use different fixing approaches. Tarkett's installation overview describes product- and room-dependent methods, while Gerflor provides dedicated guidance for its specified glued sheet systems. Do not transfer one approach to another range.

Check substrate preparation, adhesive suitability where required, roll handling, access during installation and the permitted time before use. Ask how later damage would be assessed, how a repair would look and how future access to services or replacement areas affects the plan.

Request an itemised sheet-flooring quotation

List the product, colour, roll width, measured layout, joins and any pattern allowance. Separate removal and disposal, substrate treatment, material, adhesives where applicable, seam work, edge details and labour.

Ask whether room contents must be cleared, which access restrictions apply and who signs off the installation. Keep maintenance instructions and spare material information with the handover record. Prices should be compared on the same area and scope basis, with exclusions visible.

Frequently asked questions

Will a vinyl-sheet floor have no seams?

That depends on the room dimensions, roll width and layout. Ask for a seam plan before ordering.

Is every sheet-vinyl product heat welded?

No universal seam method should be assumed. Follow the instructions for the selected flooring and application.

Can vinyl sheets hide existing tile joints?

Assess the existing finish and preparation requirements. Surface irregularities may affect the finished appearance, so check the approved overlay and preparation plan.
