Flooring Test Reports & Certifications

Check whether a report supports the exact claim and product being offered to your project.

Distinguish the document types

A product datasheet summarises declared information. A test report records an assessed sample, method and result. A certificate relates to the scope of a certification scheme. A warranty explains coverage and conditions. Request the document that answers the project question instead of treating these as interchangeable.

A logo in a brochure is a starting point for verification. Ask for the underlying identifier, issuer and product scope.

Match the offered product

Compare brand, collection, product code, construction and backing against the report. Where the document names a product family, ask the supplier to explain whether the offered variant falls within that scope. Keep the explanation with the specification.

For an assembly result, also match the accessories and supporting construction. Acoustic evidence provides a clear example: the floor, ceiling and underlay can affect the result, as Interface explains.

Read the method and result

Report item Question to resolve
Sample identity Does it match the quoted variant?
Method What property and conditions were assessed?
Result or classification What does it demonstrate for this brief?
Assembly Which supporting layers and accessories were included?
Issuer and identifier Can the document be traced to its source?
Date and scope Is it current enough and applicable to the supplied product?

Check the actual project criterion

Ask the designer, contractor or relevant approving party which evidence is required for the intended use. A test result does not automatically establish compliance with every Singapore project requirement. Different applications may require different supporting documents.

Do not infer fire, slip, emissions or environmental suitability from a report assessing an unrelated property. If the required criterion is unclear, resolve it before comparing products on a marketing score.

Verify environmental claims by scope

Ask what the environmental document concerns: the product, manufacturing process, company or another defined scope. Record the scheme, holder, identifier and applicable products. If a listing or certificate has a current validity condition, verify it through the issuer’s official channel.

A sustainability statement should remain attached to the scope it supports. It is not a substitute for installation or intended-use evidence.

Create an evidence register

Save each document with a descriptive filename and note which specification question it answers. Mark unclear identity, missing pages or unsupported transfers as unresolved. Request a complete copy rather than relying on a cropped screenshot.

Read the datasheet guide alongside this article, then use the evidence checklist to compare the shortlisted products.

Sources and product instructions
